Blackout: Demain il sera trop tard (short review: ShiraDestinie JonesLANDRAC: English, French)

Read from July 10 to 17, 2015

Blackout is a thriller that gives a vision of terrible possibilities, but also inspires hope. The frightening reality of human behavior, but also of cooperation, are both visibme. Still, I hope never to take an elevator again!

Reading to reduce poverty: El Laberinto de La Serpiente (the Labyrinth of the Snake) by Núria Masot

Este libro es mejor que Harry Potter! “pero ¿sabemos lo que en realidad buscaba?” -La amistad, lealtad y la magia, sin magia. Vale la pena leerlo.

This book is better than Harry Potter! “but ¿do we know what he was really looking for?” -Friendship, loyalty, and magic without magic. Worth reading.

Welcome to my Personal Page

Multiple sclerosis affects millions of people, including our loved ones, families, friends and co-workers. That’s why I’ve registered for Bike MS. Bike MS is a ride that brings us together to make a difference in the lives of people affected by multiple sclerosis…  and each mile we ride brings us closer to a world free of MS.

About MS

I am asking you to support me in Bike MS because this cause is meaningful to me. Multiple sclerosis is an unpredictable, often disabling, disease of the central nervous system that interrupts the flow of information…

Hard questions need hard thought, and decent education

I am ashamed to admit it, but my early years growing up in DC, NY/NJ and VA/MD/DC with a side-trip to the USNA make it difficult for me to over-ride my knee-jerk reaction:  no, the death penalty does not deter murder, but I still feel the instictive desire to say, given a forcible rapist, torturer, or sadistic murderer: shoot him.

The USA needs to have a systematic system of education which does not end up giving preferential education to the rich or to those (like myself) who were lucky enough to get into decent ‘magnet’ programs.

Then, perhaps, Americans will have the intellectual and emotional tools needed to deal with these problems.

Peace,

How applying creative logic to old reflexes can prevent new mistakes

Linked to solutions for the questions raised in an earlier post on Solving Childhood Abuse Problems via Sharing a Story, I think that understanding present-day problems in light of childhood abuse  needs to be accompanied by a strict sense of what specific problems were caused by on-going feelings (shame, self-doubt, self-hatred, etc) and how those feelings, from childhood events, lead us to make poor choices now.

I suddenly understand what my principal tried to tell me when I started teaching math
-she criticized me, saying that power is not bad, since I could not control my students. I
had difficulty with this, and ended up being fired since I'd lost control of 3 of my 5 classes.
Now I understand -I hate imposing my will on others because I had no choice as a child, and I
cannot stand to be like 'that.' Too bad I did not understand this in 2001.

(response:)
Little by little, you will find these old reflexes, analyse tehm, and put them in the right
place so that they no longer keep you from moving forward.

-----------------------------
Petit à petit, tu vas trouver tous ces (mauvais) anciens réflexes, les analyser et surtout
les ramener à leur juste valeur et ils ne t'empêcheront plus d'avancer dans la vie.

A Theoretical Framework for Shared Monetary Governance

My first article on Shared Monetary Governance (SMG) based on my thesis. Shira “Holocene Era” Dest, 16.6.12015 HE

IJCCR's avatarIJCCR

Shared Monetary Governance builds a framework for community level governance of money and fills part of the gap in the literature of monetary governance. The approach begins with consistent treatment by national regulatory frameworks vis-à-vis both national and non- national currency institutions. Regulatory framework tolerance is measured by equating more participatory processes with higher degrees of shared governance. The second part of Shared Monetary Governance explores internal monetary institutional governance. Consistent regulatory framework treatment, transparency, accountability and participation are then applied to all stakeholders affected by monetary functionality. This juxtaposition of governance vs. scale requires investigation of the processes used to make decisions in monetary institutions. Since no such dual-paradigmatic investigation has been undertaken, this paper asserts that metrics for such an investigation need to be developed. Shared Monetary Governance includes a methodology which operationalises the theoretical framework presented in this paper, building a case for full monetary decision-making participation.

Escapes and poems: the context of a word

I am back-dating this post to the time from which I’ve found these comments and poems, but I am also working to put all of this into the context of several years and two escapes later.

The first escape is the one I was just beginning to engineer in 12015 HE, when I realized that I was trapped, a second time, in a cage with a person who’d promised to protect and care for me, but who in fact took advantage of my situation to lure me into an even more damaging situation. In both cases I was at the mercy financially and emotionally and physically of a stronger adversary who had the respect, or at least the fear, of those around us, so I felt afraid to go to the authorities, or to anyone else for that matter. When you are not believed at 6 years old, you learn that you will never be believed, and you act accordingly. So, I planned my own way out, such as it was, in each case.

While assessing my situation and planning, I also needed to build my toolset, so learning marketable languages from places I’d lived was a first step, and as I reviewed, I noted a funny thing: languages often promote contention, especially among neighbors. For instance, sometimes Yes really can mean NO:

Spanish: Si! == yes at all times,
but
French: Si! == yes, but only when disagreeing with someone!

Similarly:
Greek: Ne == Yes,
but
Turkish: Ne == What?

Now we know why neighbors argue so much!
(written about March, 12014 HE…)

One poem from that time is based on this delight of learning languages, or at least pulling something good, learning a language, from the ashes of my life, while wondering what I would do if given the choice: how I would ‘follow my passion,’ if I knew what that was:

“True Passion”
To Dance
To Leap
Twirling
Skyward

And yet I could not stop wondering:
What holds me back?
Need, explosive
Perhaps fortunate;
Fury, inutile.
Never understood.

(written “28.5.12015 HE juedi”…)

This initial personal journal page (possible light trigger warning) is meant not for my readers, but TheList for myself and other women starting the journey to self-rescue, to continue to help remind and explain to myself how important keeping track and looking back can be. Now that I am here, I finally feel safe(r).
Peace to all,
Shira

start Autobiography from a full CV?

While a practice novel can be autobiographical, it seems to me that a true autobiography is also good for each person to write.  It validates your life, helps you look back on what you have learned, and shares those lessons in a more structured way than a novel (and maybe in fewer than the 6 drafts that it took me to realize that my first practice novel, Creator: Friend or Foe, RealDraft6Creator Friend or Foe Beginnings is more an anger work than a novel…). So I start by annotating my CV, using middle school and high school dreams that I learned not to share (like wanting to be a dancer but hushing that up after being told that it is better to study engineering and put food on the table than to study dance and be homeless…): Shira Destinie PROFESSIONAL SKILLS Writing, YaCy Search Engine, Ubuntu, Stayed On Freedoms Call, Research, Data Synthesis, Public Speaking (sample handout: WesleyMetropolitanMemorialUMCtalk), Spanish, Biblical Hebrew, Turkish, French, Teaching Mathematics, Teaching English as a Second Language, Unix systems administration, Network Security OBJECTIVE To increase community cooperation and renewable energy usage. Why Share Your Story?

For similar reasons to why ALL should write a book…

Protect Others via:

Protect Others: Tell Your Story (Please Help Break the Silence-Shame-Intimidation-Exploitation CYCLE …)

How can telling your story, as one friend told me, protect others?  I suppose that as one progresses, and learns

how to overcome, those lessons learned along the way can help prevent that same harm from befalling other

vulnerable people.  But how?

1.
Well, if the first childhood memory is one of sad anger, of loss, the green Caddy driving to NYC may impede, for a

lifetime, that love of large cars and of the Big Apple that so many Americans seem to boast.  If that memory is

tied to a borough where the kids rejected you, and your next memory was of being locked in a room, at 4 years of

age, hearing your mothers screams as furniture fell and things broke in the living room, as her boyfriend beat

her, how do you use this to protect others?

By coming up with a plan for teaching children to protect themselves from silence, from shame, intimidation and

from exploitation, via:

A New Adult Rite of Passage:  http://meowdate.dreamwidth.org/6177.html

2.
If one was sexually abused at 6, and told not to tell, how do we protect children from parents who can protect

neither their children nor themselves?          -Teach kids that Silence = Death, because silence can lead to

suicide, after a few years.

3.
If one took refuge from bullies by running and retreating, how to undo that shame?  -Teach kids that we ALL have a

right to our personal boundaries, to equal bodily respect, and to equal human dignity.

4.
If one was refused self-defense because “young ladies don’t fight” but they can come home in bruises that will be

ignored, how does one learn to stand up to intimidation?  -Teach kids that if you stand up, you might or might not

be hurt today, but if you cower you WILL agonise for years to come.

5.
If one was physically and sexually abused as a teenager, with all the blame heaped on a 15 year old, how to learn

not to exploit nor be exploited?  -Gandhi and Frankl cite adult choice and power: UpHold your Values and Create.
